Gigs for Sue McCreeth
22/06/2013 HEART Arts Centre, Leeds at 7.30pm | Sue McCreeth with Colin Dudman and Peter Barnaby Sue McCreeth has the dubious honour of being dubbed quite possibly the most under-rated vocalist in the UK. With three critically acclaimed albums to her name, she has been universally acclaimed by the UK press and international audiences alike as one of the most original and inventive vocal talents around.
Sue is a highly trained classical singer, who has nevertheless retained a very beautiful jazz tone in her voice over four octaves.
A multi-instrumentalist with a degree in music from Sussex University and many years post-graduate study with Joy Mammen (ret. Royal Academy of Music), a formidable technique, ferociously pitch accurate, the ability to write music which sounds like ‘serious’ fusion jazz, self-penned neat arrangements, and emotion to burn, she nevertheless can come across in performance as really quite fey. This is what makes her so magical to watch and hear, and is quite possibly why she has had the opportunity to work with some of the best jazz musicians in the UK: Andrew Cleyndert, Dave Gelly, John Horler, Colin Dudman and many others.
“The charm of her style lies in the clear modest simplicity and grace with which she carries off the most daunting musical feats.”
