Gwilym performs on TV Arts Review Of The Year Wales 2007

 2007-12-28 17:09:39

BBC Wales' TV arts review of the year promises to be a lively, eclectic programme with an informal feel. BBC Breakfast presenter Sian Williams takes viewers through the highlights of the arts in Wales in 2007, from books and film to dance, music and the visual arts.

In the show, dance critic Donald Hutera comments on performances by Diversions, Eddie Ladd and Marc Rees, and there are thoughts on the upcoming National Theatre of Wales from theatre critic Michael Billington giving some dos and don'ts. Sian discusses the year's literary events, surprises and disappointments with book pundit Francesca Rhydderch and Hay Festival founder Peter Florence also adds his views.

The show also features the Wales Book of the Year 2007, Lloyd Jones' novel Mr Cassini, and writer Byron Roger's success in the James Tait prize with The Man Who Went Into the West, a biography of poet RS Thomas.

There are three performances in studio: jazz pianist Gwilym Simcock, soprano Elin Manahan Thomas and Richard James, formerly of Gorky's Zygotic Mynci.

Miguela Gonzalez talks about the film highlights of the year including Sir Anthony Hopkins' Slipstream, Ioan Gruffudd in Amazing Grace and the first ever Iris Prize, while Bethan Elfyn gives her take on the year in rock and pop and reflects on DJing at the Venice Biennale. John Harvey will be in studio to discuss the work of late Peter Prendergast and art critic Waldemar Januzczak gives his response to the Welsh pavilion at the Venice Biennale.

Sian and Elin discuss Cardiff Singer of the World and Charles Hazlewood and the Super Furry Animals collaborate on the fusion between classical and rock.
