Radio 3 New Generation Artist and jazz pianist Gwilym Simcock headlines at this year’s Proms on Saturday 9th August in a concert that is already sold out except for standing tickets at £5 on the night! Gwilym will be performing a World Premiere of his new piano concerto “Progressions for piano and orchestra”. This piece was specially commissioned by the BBC for the Proms and will be performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by Charles Hazelwood. Gwilym will also play two pieces specially written for him by fellow jazz composer Jason Yarde. Jazz infuses the programme, with Gershwin’s gift for melody opening and closing the evening.
The concert will be broadcast live on BBC 2 television, on BBC Radio 3 and will be available on demand as audio for a week.
