Transatlantic supergroup The Impossible Gentlemen triumphed at yesterdayís Parliamentary Jazz Awards, winning the award for Best Jazz Ensemble. The groupís two main composers, award-winning pianist Gwilym Simcock and guitarist Mike Walker, accepted the award from broadcaster Moira Stuart in front of a delighted audience of musicians, journalists, labels, promoters and enthusiasts from across the world of UK jazz. With the talents of American musicians Steve Swallow and Steve Rodby on bass and drummer Adam Nussbaum, this group has rightly been recognised for its brilliant meeting of musical minds from different geographical and generational backgrounds, further evidence that jazz is an inclusive music without boundaries.
The award tops off a successful and adventurous two years for The Impossible Gentlemen, which has seen them release a highly acclaimed, poll-topping debut album and perform across Europe. It also marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the band as they prepare to release their second album produced by multi-Grammy winner Steve Rodby on Basho Records in September and a major UK tour in October 2013.† It is sure to bring more of the groupís trademark mastery of melody and groove, along with plenty of thrilling surprises.
