UK Jazz Services sponsored "what's it all about" tour is almost over - last date this Friday, 9th May at Bulls Head, Barnes with julie herself on vocals/piano joined by virtuoso tony coe on reeds and the rest of the band - paul morgan bass, winston clifford drums, phil lee guitar & ray butcher trumpet [john horler couldn't make this date, although there are more uk dates lined up with julie, tony and alec dankworth soon!]
The tour's been a great success with packed audiences from St Ives to Birmingham - and as a means of ensuring the grand piano was moved back into the auditorium in time for our performance, john horler even gave an inspirational jazz piano masterclass at Sherborne School's Powell Theatre before the evening concert recently, much to the delight of those music students and staff who attended.
Altough the incomparable paul morgan features both on the "what's it all about" album and has played fantastically as usual [!] on most of the London/S.E tour dates, top bassists Zoltan Dekany and Thad Kelly joined the rest of the band for several tour dates - Zoltan in N. Devon, St. Ives, Totnes, Bedford and Birmingham and Thad on the Sherborne date. Their playing was superb - and their sight-reading skills pretty impressive: we couldn't have done it without them!
Upcoming gigs include several Dorset dates: julie dunn/john horler/tony coe quartet with alec dankworth on bass (two in Dorset in May - 10th at Portesham nr Weymouth & 22nd at Gillingham School's Creative Arts Centre - and one on October 2nd in Eype, Bridport)
Also, Swanage Festival 13th July: julie dunn/john horler/tony coe/mark hodgson
