TODESCO, INNISS AND CAHEN IN PARIS! On the weekend of August 5 and 6 Mike Cahen (guitar), Enzo Todesco (drums) and Roger Inniss (bass) rocked the boat, "La Calife", on the Seine in Paris. The three met up in Paris (Mike's hometown) to play music together and "to see what would happen"! The setting was a beautiful barge, rebuilt and refurbished as a restaurant by Hammond organ maestro Nicolas Gailledrat. Enzo had come from Los Angeles and Roger from Birmingham, England, and all three musicians have wide-ranging and illustrious credits to their names: Enzo – Randy Crawford, Dr. John, Neville Brothers…; Roger – Chaka Khan, Mick Taylor…; Mike – Lionel Ritchie, Suzie Quatro…. On both evenings the emphasis was on improvised music from start to finish. Between them they created an energy, excitement and unpredictability that makes great jazz musicians stand out from the crowd. Playing with the emotions of the audience, they always managed to work out how to resolve the music, having taken us on a journey, totally in the moment and, at times, mind-boggling in its creativity.
This is a union that must be repeated! There is a DVD available of the gigs – http://mikecahen.chez-alice.fr/, http://www.rogerinniss.com/
