Reviews of Graeme Scott
01/05/2005 Selwyn Harris- Jazzwise | This young Scottish guitarist has worked with singer Cathie Rae. But unlike his folk-inclined compatriots, favours a more orthodox straightahead approach. Scott's bright rounded sound and virtuosity points to his remarkable classical credentials and his quartet, featuring Colin Steele bassist Aidan O'Donnell, swing solidly through the leaders unapologetically derivative originals. | 17/03/2005 Kenny Mathieson-The List magazine | Graeme Scott's self-issued debut album confirms the high regard that the young Glasgow-based guitarist has already earned on the Scottish Jazz scene. His deft touch and fluid, resourceful improvisations are supported by an excellent trio comprising pianist and organist Paul Harrison, bassist Aidan O'Donnell and drummer Stuart Ritchie. He has opted for a full disc of his own well crafted compositions rather than include something more familiar from the standard repetoire, but sets up a nice balance between up-tempo and more reflective material. The result is a very enjoyable album, and one that augers well for the guitarist's continued development. |
