With Beat & Lip, the drums and bass clarinet take front stage. This unusual instrumentation enables drummer Beatrice Graf and clarinettist Philippe Ehinger to explore new sound combinations. The duo condenses groovy sounds with complex rhythmic samples, without ever sacrificing the melodious aspect. Ehinger’s clarinet-playing harmonises beautifully with Beatrice Graf’s pulsating rhythms. But the duo cannot be reduced to these two instruments alone: Hammond organ and keyboard also come into play, and a looper gives their music an extremely dense orchestral structure. Graf and Ehinger compose, arrange and interpret a repertoire comprising their own compositions as well as standards. Their debut album – simply titled after the duo – now brings their multifarious music to a wider public.
