Reviews of NYJOS
23/12/2006 Rob Adams, The Herald | "If the Kellock-Steele-Milligan is regarded as a golden age of Scottish jazz, the next crop of musicians is determined to keep the Saltire flying. This CD, based around arrangements of three old Scots songs, finds the orchestra sound far more mature than their youth might suggest. There are several excellent solos from pianist Alan Benzie and tenor saxophonist Grant Irvine investigates Auld Lang Syne with a light, appropriately Scottish approach. The well-drilled fun of Duncan Lamont's Carnival of the Animals suite and two standards offer further evidence of energy, confidence and no end of promise." | 08/12/2006 Kenny Mathieson, The Scotsman | "The second recording from the NYJOS features two suites from Scottish composers. Malcolm Edmonstone is the ensemble's co-director, and his settings of old Scots songs from the McGibbons collection, are nicely put together and capably played by the young band." | 08/12/2006 Kenny Mathieson, The Scotsman | "The second recording from the NYJOS features two suites from Scottish composers.
