Basho Music brings the very best of contemporary music to the community
of Marylebone and beyond. Aimed at residents, including young people,
those who work in the area, and music lovers throughout London, the concerts
in the nave of the beautiful St Cyprian’s church will provide a
relaxing couple of hours of great acoustic music in the early evening.
"The church has become the setting for a series of adventurous
jazz concerts ......most of the time, the sheer beauty of its sound seduced
us too, shimmering round the ornate Anglo-Catholic interior of St Cyprian’s,
as Yoshiki Ban’s ornate candles guttered and flickered" Alyn
Shipton, The Times 4 stars **** ALL TUESDAYS STARTING AT 6.30 P.M.
PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU ORDER TICKETS CLOSE TO
THE CONCERT DATE THEY WILL BE HELD AT THE DOOR FOR YOU. TICKETS ARE STILL

| TUESDAY 21ST APRIL - GEOFF EALES AND CHRIS LAURENCE |
 Geoff Eales (piano) Chris Laurence(bass)
Two master musicians at the top of their game
Promoting their new album on Edition records these two extraordinary musicians return to their first love – jazz. Both have played with just about anyone you care to name in the music world from Paul McCartney to Kiri te Kanawa and on numerous film soundtracks. |
| TUESDAY MAY 5TH GWILYM SIMCOCK TRIO
Gwilym Simcock (piano) Yuri Goloubev (bass) and James Maddren (drums) |
Gwilym was chosen as one of the 1000 Most Influential People in London by the Evening Standard.
Here is what they say: "Gwilym Simcock, 27 COMPOSER AND PIANIST
A meteoric rise to stardom saw this classically trained jazz genius perform his composition Progressions at this year's Proms with the BBC Concert Orchestra. Hailed for his originality and a gifted pianist, he is wanted everywhere and one to watch".
We have seen Gwilym St Cyprian's with Acoustic Triangle, with Neon and playing solo. We are delighted to have Gwilym's new trio at St Cyprian's for what promises to be a star performance. |
| TUESDAY MAY 19TH JOHN LAW ART OF SOUND TRIO
John Law (piano) Sam Burgess (bass) and Asaf Sirkis(drums) |
Playing the beautiful, haunting compositions of pianist John Law (“when he records for ECM he’ll become a star!” Jazzthetik, Germany) the trio's aim is to become one of Europe’s foremost listening groups: listening to each other, to the sound that they produce, individually and collectively, and to the acoustics of the environment they are playing in. Balance, poise and a sense of beauty are what the trio tries to achieve. And a sense of drama and excitement. Jazz drive and rhythm with a classical feel for nuance.
“The jazz grapevine has been passing the word around about John Law's trio with bassist Sam Burgess and drummer Asaf Sirkis since the release of their first CD, The Art of Sound Vol1, in 2007. One of the most respected and admired groups on today's scene, the trio have gathered terrific reviews and - equally important - ecstatic response from live audiences throughout the country. John Law has long been known as a gifted and single-minded soloist and composer - this trio finds him in the company of a musical partnership that has found a rare collective spirit.” Serious/London Jazz Festival
Part of an extensive UK tour, in this concert the group will be promoting the new CD Congregation, The Art of Sound Volume 4. The new trio material is much more extrovert, some tunes with a slight rock feel. They include the audience favourites: Congregation, The Ghost in the Oak and Can a Cannibal Nibble?
