Biography of Lucia Ianniello
Lucia Ianniello Bb and C trumpet, flugelhorn, effects and objects; Diana Torti voice; Giuseppe La Spina guitars; Paolo Tombolesi keyboards, acoustic bass and percussion.
Lucia Ianniello loves to melt her jazz musical experiences with other expressive areas in multidisciplinary projects, preferring open forms, free improvisations and experimentation. She took the Bachelor’s Degree and the 2nd Degree in Jazz Music at the “L. Refice” Conservatory of Music, in Frosinone. She also took part to masterclasses: "Seminari Senesi of Jazz", Scott Reeves of New York City College, Manu Mellaerts of Koninklijk-Conservatorium-Brussels, Jorge Javier Giner Gutiérrez of Real Conservatorio Superior de Música “Victoria Eugenia” in Granada, Benny Wiame of Maastricht Conservatorium, etc. From 2005, she has been several artistic experiences with a lot of musicians in different projects, having performances throughout Italy and collaborating with large ensembles directed by Eugenio Colombo, Greg Burk, Roberto Spadoni. In her original project, among the different musicians, she constantly collaborates with the pianist and composer Paolo Tombolesi and the vocalist Diana Torti, taking part to jazz festivals and seasons. In 2015, she organized the musical events of the "For Appiam '15" International Festival of Art at the Appia Antica Park in Roma.
“Maintenant” is Lucia Ianniello’s first CD as a bandleader: although a jazz trumpeter by training, she is very open to experimentation in other musical areas, including the creation of multidisciplinary projects. This album is a work of auditory images, atmospheres and soundscapes, some visionary, with particular exploration of melody and timbre. Extended passages of collective improvisation are conceived as contrapuntal layering of sounds.
The quartet offers a ‘sound chamber’ obtained, despite a significant presence of electronic instruments and effects, through the trumpeter’s arrangements, characterized by the absence of drums and the use of the instrumental voice without text. However, the underlying philosophy of this work is expressed, beyond the stylistic and formal aspects, in an effort to focus on the urgency of expression and the human relationship between the musicians, away from any form of complacency.
