Biography of Giorgio Dini

Starts studying the Double Bass in 1984 with Enrico Fazio; under his guide he learns the classical technique (Simandl, Bottesini, Montanari, Billč) and learns the principles and the meanings of the Contemporary Music. In the very beginning of his studies he attended the Siena Workshops, teacher Bruno Tommaso. During the following years he met internationally known bass players like Percy Heath, Charlie Haden, Pierre Michelot, from whom he has been teached. Later on he attends workshops with Furio di Castri, Enrico Rava and Miroslav Vitous. More recently, he attends Masterclass and concerts about improvisation in the Renaissance (Diedo Ortiz method), in Arabic and in pure Avant-garde music with Michel Godard, Gabriele Mirabassi, Jamal Ouassini and Markus Stockhausen.
In 1992 graduates in Economics and he more recently founds the recording label Silta Records, promoting improvised music.
Among the years he has been playing Mainstream, Bop, Modern and Avant-garde Jazz from Duo to Big band. Performed with: Carlo Actis Dato, Gianni Basso, Luigi Bonafede, Fabrizio Bosso, Ignacio Berroa, Giulio Camarca, Tommy Campbell, Ed Cherry, Francisco Mora, Roberto Cipelli, Antonio Faraņ, Franco Mondini, Francisco Mora, Bob Mover, Ralph Moore, Larry Nocella, Sam Rivers, Irene Robbins, Mike Rosen, Mario Rusca, Carlo Sola, Tanaka Takehisa, James Williams, Jon Worrell. Between 1995 and 2000 he's been regular bassist of the Lil Darling Hot Club, with which regularly performed at the Turin Royal Theatre. Performed all over Italy and in France, Suisse, Japan (gigs in Jazz Clubs, tours, Jazz Contests, Festivals). With Lil Darling he appears on four CDs.
Since a few years, Giorgio has been developing his skills in improvised music, extending his experience towards AVANT-GARDE, CONTEMPORARY AND FREE-FORM IMPROVISATION, studying the music of Masters like Ornette Coleman, Francois Rabbath, Luciano Berio, Giacinto Scelsi and more, focusing on duo / trio collaborations or solo bass performances.

In 2004 his CD of duo improvisations ("Out!", recorded with CARLO ACTIS DATO) has been released by Silta Records, with very positive reviews on the specialized Media (including Rai Radio3 network and international magazines).
Afterwards, his musical path is witnessed by the CD "Ergskkem" (Silta Records 2006), free-form trio improvisations with GIANNI LENOCI and MARKUS STOCKHAUSEN; for this Giorgio has been interviewed by "Jazz Magazine" (2 full pages) and "Suono" (1 full page). The CD has been positively reviewed by all the main media, in Italy and abroad.

In 2007 he co-produces the CD "Uncrying Sky", with violinist Stefano Pastor, Giancarlo Schiaffini (trombone) and Daviano Rotella (drums). The CD is released by Silta Records along with a 28-pages booklet containing poems by S. Pastor integrating his own compositions. In July 2007 he makes a duo recording with the american virtuoso pianist Borah Bergman, historical representative of Free Jazz Stream since the sixties (released by Silta Records in 2008. titled "One More Time", which is getting great reviews in Europe and USA).

During 2008 he played withthe british saxophonist George Haslam, recording with him (quartet) and performing live (quintet).

Currently he is preparing a program of solo bass, proposing improvisations and modern interpretations of compositions from different ages.

In 2008 he test double bass strings for Pirastro and in January 2009 he becomes Artistic Consultant (A&R) for the independent label Ruby-Flower Records.
